Mi Leyenda, translated to “My Legend”, is a foundation built to promote academic achievement for those who want to create a legacy through their success.
A story has many chapters, but for the chapters that are yet to be written, Mi Leyenda Foundation aims to provide supplemental resources for estudiantes resilientes, resilient students who are looking to pursue a post-secondary education to continue writing their legacy.
Inspiring achievement through academics and critical thinking allows the stories that are to be written to come from the most informed and educated perspective.
Resilience comes from grit, and the undeniable drive to make the impossible, possible. History doesn't get written by those who stay quiet.
Giving back to your community and paying it forward to the next generation is at the core of leaving your mark.
Making an impact in someone’s life is one of the most fulfilling things one can do to better the
community around us. After a couple of years of hosting the Mamba Memorial Tournament and donating funds to other organizations, the couple decided to start a foundation that was based on their passion and drive of education.
In 2022, Angelica Chavez-Lopez and Royer Lopez founded Mi Leyenda Foundation.
Royer Lopez is a first generation college graduate and the eldest in his family. Since he was young, he always dreamt of attending the University of Colorado-Boulder. Having graduated from Greeley West High School, he walked on the CU-Boulder campus as a Daniels Scholar and knew that eventually he wanted to give back to his community.
Angelica Chavez-Lopez is also a first generation college graduate and the eldest in her family.
After graduating with her Master’s degree in Education Policy and many years of working in higher education, she found her passion in working with first generation-students. She prides herself on being a resource for those who are pursuing their post-secondary education.
Angelica and Royer met at the University of Colorado-Boulder, which was their dream school, and eventually became college sweethearts. Now Angelica works for the Pre-College Bridge Program at CU-Boulder and Royer serves on the Board of Advisors for the Forever Buffs Alumni Association.
They created this foundation with the love and passion they have towards post-secondary education in hopes that they help guide the next generation of students and future leaders. They hope to continue writing their legend by making change in the community and being a part of the ripple that starts when you help uplift someone else.
