Our Legend
Making an impact in someone’s life is one of the most fulfilling ways to strengthen the community around us. After several years of hosting the Mamba Memorial Tournament and donating its proceeds to other organizations, they felt called to do even more. Their shared passion for education and desire to uplift others inspired them to create something of their own.
In 2022, Angie Chavez-Lopez and Royer Lopez founded Mi Leyenda Foundation.
Royer is a first-generation college graduate and the eldest of his siblings. From an early age, he dreamed of attending University of Colorado Boulder. After graduating from Greeley West High School, he stepped onto the CU Boulder campus as a proud Daniels Fund Scholar—and knew even then that he wanted to one day give back to the community that raised him.
Angie is also a first-generation college graduate and the eldest in her family. With a Master’s degree in Educational Foundations, Policy & Practice and years of experience working in higher education, she found her calling in supporting first-generation students. She takes pride in serving as a resource for those navigating the path to post-secondary education.
Angie and Royer met as students at their dream school, CU Boulder, where they became college sweethearts. Today, Angelica works with the Bridge Scholars Program in the Office of Precollege Outreach & Engagement at CU Boulder, while Royer serves on multiple alumni boards across campus and is pursuing his MBA at the Leeds School of Business.
They launched Mi Leyenda Foundation out of their love for education and their belief in the power of opportunity. Through scholarships and resources, they aim to help guide the next generation of students and future leaders. Their mission is to continue writing their own legend by sparking ripples of change uplifting others, empowering dreams, and building a stronger community, one student at a time.
