Applying for college is a tall task.

Let us help you track everything.

Deadlines, essays, FAFSA, there are so many things  to keep track of when applying for college. To help you track everything we have created a timeline to help you know when things are coming up!

Fall Semester

COLLEGE ADMISSIONS APPLICATION PROCESS

  • If you have retaken your ACT/SAT, submit your new scores

  • Finalize the colleges and universities you may be interested in attending the 2023-2024 school year.

  • Check application deadlines. (Most early decisions for admissions applications are due in November. Keep this in mind if you intend to take advantage of these options.)

  • Make a final list of schools that interest you and all the materials needed to complete the admissions application. Be sure to save all the important documents in a folder.

  • Most colleges/universities will want you to select a major. Take a Career Survey online or with your school to explore majors for careers that interest you if you are still unsure of what you would like to major in. You can choose an open option/undeclared. If you decide after to change your major you will need to talk to the admissions office or the department of the major you are interested in to find out about the requirements.

FINANCIAL AID

  • Look for scholarships specifically offered by the institution you’re interested in.
    • Example: On November 1st the CU Boulder Scholarship Application is available to complete. The date is November 1, 2022-February 15th so apply early.

  • Even if you are still not sure you want to attend that institution, complete the scholarship application. This process will also assist you with the other schools you are interested in applying for.

  • Check the scholarship dates of other colleges/universities you are interested in attending.

  • Continue to search and apply for scholarships. Scholarships are not just for top students and athletes. There may be a perfect scholarship for you — it's worth doing a little research. Talk with your school counselor, church, and research scholarships at the local, state, and national level. (Like the Mi Leyenda Scholarship!)

  • Turn in all scholarship applications by their deadline. If possible, turn them in earlier so that you can be sure you won’t miss the deadline.

  • Check with the financial aid office of the schools to which you are applying for specific information on scholarships and costs for tuition, fees, room and board, and any additional financial aid info.

ADMISSION FEE WAIVERS FOR COLLEGE APPLICATIONS

  • Most college applications charge a fee to apply to their college. When you are applying most colleges/universities will give you the opportunity to either check a box or complete a form to waive the cost of the application fee. Most requests are based on financial hardship.

  • Please be advised that it is up to the institution’s discretion to decide whether the application fee will be waived. If the institution does not accept the fee waiver request, you will receive notice that the application fee will need to be paid if you want to be considered for admission.

** Please note we know that during your senior year you are focusing on graduating. But you need to take the time to apply for these scholarships early due to the deadlines. This could be free money you can have for college.

Winter Break

FINANCIAL AID

  • In December, the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is available to complete. Reach out to your high school counselor or our program to further assist you with this process if you need help.

  • Apply for The College Opportunity Fund (COF). The College Opportunity Fund (COF), created by the Colorado Legislature, provides a stipend to eligible undergraduate students. The stipend pays a portion of your total in-state tuition when you attend a participating college. Eligible undergraduate students must apply, be admitted and enroll in classes at a participating college to receive this benefit. Both new and continuing students are eligible for the stipend. Qualifying students may use the stipend for eligible undergraduate classes. The stipend is paid on a per credit hour basis directly to the college at which the student is enrolled. The credit-hour amount is set annually by the General Assembly.

SPring Semester

COLLEGE ADMISSIONS APPLICATION PROCESS

  • Continue to narrow and finalize your college/university choice

  • Confirm your intent to enroll once you know the college/university you want to attend. Make sure to review the deadlines.

FINANCIAL AID

  • Provide documentation for Financial Aid Verification if needed. This is usually when  the college needs additional documentation to verify what you submitted on the FAFSA.

  • Compare the different financial aid packages. Review each college/university package to determine what additional money you will need or can afford to attend.
